RE: Becoming a Business Analyst

Dear Friend,

I get a lot of emails, blog posts, and fan page posts from people who want to be a Business Analyst. You have been working for a few or many years in related jobs and really want to be a Business Analyst. You have asked me where to find training on the BA role. There may be good training available, but I do not know the people offering it, so I did not feel I could recommend it.

To solve this problem, I wrote a class for you! And I am really excited to be able to offer this class because I want to help you in your goal of becoming a BA.

Time Versus Money

You often see on the internet people saying that you should not pay for training. The argument is that there is so much information available free, you should not spend money to learn to be a Business Analyst.

There is a lot of truth to that statement. There IS a lot of information available for free on the internet. I produce a lot of it myself!

Think about this: How long do you want to spend looking for information online, then spending more time determining if the information is any good? How long do you want to spend doing things by trial and error and learning from experience?

There is nothing wrong with learning from experience of course. There was no training in the BA role when I started doing this work, no books, and no internet. I spent a lot of years learning my craft. Do you want to spend that kind of time when you do not have to?

You can SHORTCUT your learning process by learning from someone who has "Been there, done that." Let me show you the techniques and tricks I have learned over the years, show you what works. I estimate that in my class you will learn most of what you need to know for the next 3-5 years of your BA career. What is that worth to you?

"I got a lot from this video of the steps for writing cases that I didn't pick up in the work world, but had to learn on the fly..."

"Thank you for your time and efforts putting all these tools together and sharing with those who crave learning more and improving current skills."

Pat

Imagine it is late summer and you are starting a new Business Analyst position. You are relaxed and confident, because you know just what to do. You make a good impression on your new boss, because right away you identify the most important tasks and start to work on them immediately.

That is what I want to help you achieve through this class - the skills and knowledge that will give you the confidence for your new position. I am offering the class as a 10 week teleseminar series starting 31 January 2011. All the class sessions are recorded, so if you have to miss a day, you can listen to the recording at a time convenient to you.

Geri's Background and Experience

I realize some of you do not know me. I have been in the software industry for over 20 years in a wide variety of roles. I alternate over the years between working on project teams, consulting, coaching, and training. I work as a BA, mentor and train BA's, and hire BA's for project teams. You can find out a lot about me through an online search, and I encourage you to do so. I do have a lot of experience, but even more important are the results my clients get from my work:

"Geri not only has the broad skill set, the deep knowledge of all aspects of software development and requirements, but she also combines these with a rare gift for communication with both business and highly technical audiences."

"I would recommend Geri and Wyyzzk for any requirements or development-related work. She really delivers value for your money and does what's needed to be successful. You can hardly ask for more."

Andrew Midkiff

You may be thinking that it is good that I have a lot of experience and am good at my job, but can I teach?

"Geri's OOA/OOD/Rose class is by unanimous acclamation the best training experience we have ever had."

"Her practical tool-based knowledge is flawless, exceeded only by the depth and breadth of her theoretical understanding and insight. A great communicator to boot!"

Douglas Nash

You may be skeptical about a teleseminar format. I have a good amount of experience with leading teleseminars since 2007, and in 2010 I competed and was a finalist in Alex Mandossian's Teleseminar Secrets Challenge in the veteran category (which means I competed against other people with experience being paid to deliver teleseminars). These were very talented people and I finished in the top 6. Why do you care? I want you to know that I know how to effectively run a class in a teleseminar format.

My teleseminar students say this about my training:

"Your class has been very helpful and I am already putting things I have learned to good use."

"Thank you again for all your help!"

Jodi Wright

"And trust me, that's about the *only* thing that could've kept me outta your class."

"Just wanted to let you know I will not be on tomorrow's webinar session because.... ... I'll be in an interview for a BA position! Hooray!"

Karen Ciocchi

I find that most people learn more taking the class through teleseminar than they do sitting in a classroom for a week. Spreading the material out over a number of weeks gives your brain time to absorb and incorporate the information into your work.

How does the Teleseminar format work?

The class runs from 31 January 2011 through 14 April 2011. We will meet for 5 weeks, take a break the week of 7 March 2011, then meet for 5 more weeks. Instructional meetings, where I teach some lessons and assign homework, are 3 hours on Mondays. Question and Answer sessions, where you can ask anything you like about the course, are 3 hours on on Thursdays. The teleseminar software has a chat room we use during the Q&A calls. You can access the sessions through webinar, telephone, or direct Skype access.

You get 30 hours of lessons and 30 hours of Q&A in this class!

I will assign homework that you can complete in your environment. I have devised some creative ways for you to practice the skills you need, even with family and friends. These are things that will not annoy them either. They will probably enjoy helping you with this homework!

Credits for Certification

This is an IIBA Certified course for BABOK 2.0, so you get 30 credits upon completion of the class that you can use for Professional Development Hours (PD hours) for initial certification or Continuing Development Units (CDUs) for recertification.

4 Week Money Back Guarantee

If you are not satisfied with the class, you can cancel as late as 10 pm on 21 February 2011 for a full refund just by sending me an email. I will be sorry to lose your participation, you and your study buddy will both be cancelled from the class, and you will not have alumni status, but we will part friends.

You get Alumni Status

There is so much to learn in a class like this, I often want to repeat the material. You can do that with the recordings. I find that hard to do. It is so much easier to review the material when I am taking a class.

I am offering you what I like! Alumni Status is for those who complete the course. Alumni get to repeat my teleseminar course whenever it is offered at no charge. Next time I offer the teleseminar course, I will send all the Alumni an email inviting you to participate again. You attend like everyone else, get all the course materials, recordings, and benefits like everyone else, but there is no course fee.

Invite a Study Buddy

I allow each registered student to invite a friend to study with them for free. You are the registered student and pay for the class. Your friend has access to all the lessons and course materials, just like you do. Your Study Buddy is paired with you, as if you were one student. The Study Buddy does not get to invite a Study Buddy, and does not qualify for Alumni status. If you cancel the class, your Study Buddy is also cancelled from the class.

Ready to register? The cost is only $970 for the full course, including, Alumni status, and Study Buddy.

Still Not Sure?
